There has been a lot to celebrate in the past year, as AAPIs have made significant headway in representation and civic engagement. The midterms were also a watershed moment for AAPI civic engagement. And political parties and congressional campaigns showered attention on Asian American communities, with competitive Congressional districts stretching from Los Angeles County through Orange County and San Diego. This is particularly true in the realm of philanthropy, where Asian Americans have yet to be meaningfully engaged. And although there are areas of Asian poverty within our communities, there is no doubt that Asian Americans are also rapidly filling the ranks of the wealthy in California and nationwide.

In , after working in Orange County for many years, we opened a small office in Garden Grove. The Advancing Justice-Orange County office allowed us to expand our legal services in Orange County and help thousands of clients and callers, particularly those who are low-income or recent immigrants. Currently, we provide legal intake in seven Asian languages and have a Vietnamese immigration attorney located in Orange County. In , we plan to expand our work providing immigration including helping undocumented youth apply for deferred action status and citizenship assistance as well as outreaching and enrolling low- and moderate-income AANHPIs in health insurance. We also provide support to local organizers fighting for district-based elections and Orange County organizations engaged in voter turnout activities.
